Wall

SHARED · BUILDING ELEMENT AddedIFC 1.0

What it represents

A vertical construction that bounds or subdivides space, may be load-bearing or non-load-bearing, and is typically planar but may be curved. Includes both internal partition walls and external enclosure walls. The most general wall entity in IFC — use this for any wall that doesn't fit a more specific subtype.

Why this matters for estimating

Walls drive a large portion of any BOQ — concrete, masonry, framing, plasterboard, insulation, finishes. The IFC model gives you net length / area / volume as quantities, plus material breakdown via the layer set. Most BIM-to-BOQ workflows pivot on getting IfcWall right.
