buildingSMART Data Dictionary

Live data from buildingSMART. This tool searches the official bsDD API directly. Results update as you type. Click any result to see its full class definition — properties grouped by property set, parents, related classes, and the dictionary it belongs to.

Wall

IfcWall
CLASS IFC 4.3 · buildingSMART

What it represents

A vertical construction that may bound or subdivide spaces. Walls are usually vertical, or nearly vertical, planar elements, often designed to bear structural loads. A wall is however not required to be load-bearing.

What you'll see when you click a real result

Every searchable bsDD class returns: - The class definition and dictionary metadata - The full property catalogue grouped by Pset (Pset_WallCommon, Pset_WallFireRating, etc.) so you can see exactly which properties an estimator or BIM lead can rely on for a given element - Parent class and related classes you can click through to navigate the hierarchy - Direct links back to the buildingSMART canonical URI

Why this matters for estimators

bsDD is the single source of truth for what properties an IFC element could carry. When you tell a BIM modeller "I need FireRating and LoadBearing populated on every wall in the model so I can split my BOQ", bsDD is where you look up the exact property names, types, and Pset they live under. Use the dictionary chips to switch from IFC into ETIM (manufacturer-specific product classifications), Uniclass (UK), or any of the 60+ regional standards.

Tips

- Type a few characters and pause — search runs after 250ms idle. - Use the IFC entity name (IfcWall, IfcSpace) or a plain-English term ("door", "concrete"). - Click a dictionary chip to scope the search to that single dictionary. - Click a class result to see its full property set in the panel here.
